Texas has always been a hot place during the summer, but in many areas humidity is beginning to become a problem as well. With this new issue beginning to affect comfort levels as the days start to heat up, many people are relying on their air conditioners to battle the increased moisture. Unfortunately, this isn’t going to be enough to appreciably lower humidity levels in many homes. Let’s take a look at why you need a dedicated humidifier in your home this summer.
Why an Air Conditioner Won’t Cut It
Air conditioners do dehumidify the air during operation, as they lower the air temperature below the dew point. However, this is more of an incidental occurrence than a feature that can be relied on. The air conditioner is designed to cool the air, not dehumidify it, and will therefore be far less effective than a dedicated dehumidifier. It will also be unable to operate during winter, unless you’re okay with keeping your home uncomfortably cold for the sake of a slightly drier air flow. This is why you need a dedicated dehumidifier if you really want to correct your humidity imbalance.
Dehumidifiers
Dehumidifiers are essentially air conditioners and heaters rolled into one unit. They cool the air down to the dew point, just like air conditioners do, to siphon moisture out of it. Then, they warm the air back up to the correct temperature before releasing it into circulation. They are much more efficient at removing moisture from the air than air conditioning systems are, because they are designed for that single purpose. If you want to really get your home’s humidity back to comfortable levels, a dehumidifier is the way to do it.
